“And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meets in her aspect and her eyes…”
—George Bernard Shaw
Have you ever had enough of people asking you “Are you tired? Are you sad or are you angry?
Our eyes reveal our thoughts, moods, and emotions. They are what we look at the most in human interactions. The aspect of our eyes denotes youth and beauty, attracts and repels, and sometimes offers a peek into our souls. As the years move forward, the eyebrows sag and come to rest on the rim of the orbit. Folds of extra lid skin push down to the lashes. Fat pushes forward behind the wrinkled skin of lower lids.
Rejuvenating the upper third of the face may include one or all of the procedures to freshen the upper eyelids, lift the brows, reduce the fatty bags of the lower eyelids, and smooth and firm the skin of the lower lid and crow’s feet.
An upper eyelid lift removes the extra skin and any fat bulges that hide the lid and make the application of makeup difficult. This can be done with local anesthesia.
Dr. Truswell uses the CO2 laser to perform the lower eyelid procedure under monitored anesthesia care. The incision is made on the back of the lower lid, with the laser. The skin is firmed and smoothed with the laser as well. There are no stitches required with this procedure.
If the brow has fallen, it will crowd the upper lids, causing the eyes to look smaller. Sometimes repositioning the brow is all that is needed to brighten and rejuvenate the eyes. Sometimes the upper lid must be trimmed as well. The “heavy brow” look is softened with an endoscopic brow-lift, which requires four very small incisions within the hairline. The brow is repositioned upward.
